Inspiring Picture Frame Concepts and Ideas

By Sally Talbot

Often it is the small things, the little touches we make that truly create the magic. This is never more true when discussing interior design. Those little touches can say so much about the personality of the designer and speak powerfully about the style and personality of the occupants of the home itself.

A Picture Frame tells 1,000 Words?

Obviously the artwork or photos we opt to exhibit on our walls says lots about us. But what about the picture frames we chose to enclose the pictures in. When you think about it, a picture frame plays an important part in helping to create the right look in your rooms. Select the wrong one and the carefully selected artwork wont be at it's absolute best. Picture frames must always work with the picture itself and be selected based mostly on the piece you are showing.

How to Decide on the best Picture Frame

As alluded to above, the best picture frame isn't going to be the most stylish or flamboyant frame you'll be able to find. The best picture frame will be the one which actually represents the picture it is showing. This may come down to a simple thing such as the color of the matting or the amount of padding you use either side of the picture. The frame itself is obviously also a major consideration. Colors should be chosen that blend with the artwork or contrast with it. While this will sound paradoxical it essentially isn't, the idea is to be deliberate. If you really need the frame to blend nicely with the surroundings ensure it works alongside all elements. If however you actually want the picture to stand out then really emphasise things by contrasting the frame with the other design components of the room.

Positioning of Picture Frames

One of the best picture frame ideas to think about is staggering. Here's where you essentially stagger the picture frames alternately to form more of an impact. The general impression will be uniform in a sense but less structured at the exact same time.
